What is Fitness Therapy?

"Exercise is the most potent, yet underutilized, antidepressant."

- Bill Phillips, author Body for Life

Fitness therapy is taking mental healthcare beyond medications and psychotherapy by encouraging regular exercise as part of the treatment plan.

Many research studies have shown the effectiveness of regular exercise in decreasing depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric symptoms. This does not mean you need to run a marathon to get any benefits (although you can if you want!).

Walking, running, cycling, swimming, strength training, and many other types of exercise can produce results, both physically and mentally, with as little as 30 minutes per day

While not everyone can utilize exercise as their only treatment, it complements the effects of medications and psychotherapy and can lead to overall better outcomes.

Whether you are just beginning or have already started, Dr. Lynx can help you incorporate fitness into your mental health journey. In addition to psychotherapy and medication management (if needed), fitness therapy sessions may include discussion of your overall progress, help with setting goals, and working through any roadblocks you may have encountered.
